Unlike conventional olympiads that test whether a child memorised the right answer, IPO exams are designed around application, a Grade 1 child isn't asked to recall a spelling rule, they're given an unfamiliar word and asked to decode it using the phonics patterns they've learned. That distinction is the difference between testing memory and measuring actual reading ability.
IPO runs three structured national-level competitions, the Phonics Olympiad, MathX Olympiad, and Spellathon, across four progressive stages from school level to national level. Alongside the exams, IPO provides grade-specific study kits, practice papers, and school coordinator support so that participation is preparation, not just assessment.
What makes IPO's approach different is specificity, each exam level has a defined syllabus, each question type targets a named skill, and each performance report tells parents exactly which topics their child needs to work on. There is no generic "overall score" and a certificate. There is a topic-wise breakdown that a parent can act on.
A child who leaves Grade 3 able to read independently, decode unfamiliar words, and express themselves clearly in English has an advantage that compounds every year of school that follows. That is what IPO is built to create - not a certificate on a wall, but a capability that lasts.
